Software Engineer, Infrastructure
Join Reel to accelerate the renewable energy transition.
About Reel
We are rethinking electricity to accelerate the transition to a carbon-free energy system.
Electricity is one of the biggest sources of carbon emissions globally, yet most green power sold on the market today fails move the needle toward decarbonizing electricity production.
Reel empowers companies to move beyond climate commitments and achieve real-world carbon reductions, by bridging the gap between renewable energy producers and consumers.
Join our mission-driven, cross-disciplinary team of developers, builders, and climate experts working to accelerate the transition to a net-zero economy.
How you can contribute
As our new Software Engineer with a focus on infrastructure, you’ll help keep the systems the rest of Reel is built on reliable and secure. That’s everything from the grid-scale assets we control in real-time to the platform our customers use every day. You will work closely with Christian, our CTO, and the rest of the engineering team, freeing up the whole team to move faster by keeping our foundations solid and boring in the best possible way.
You see infrastructure as a means to an end: helping the product and the team move faster. You stay close to what the team actually needs, favour simple, proven solutions over complexity, and build foundations others can rely on.
What your role will look like
These are some (not all) of the things you will be working on:
Keep our core systems reliable: Keep our systems healthy and up-to-date - working on systems that dispatch grid-scale batteries, trade energy, and serve real-time data means that reliability is a high priority.
Connect to physical assets reliably: Build and strengthen the secure connections between our platform and physical solar, wind, and battery assets.
Drive security across the team: Strengthen our security practices across the engineering team, from least-privilege access to secure-by-default development environments, and support security audits and compliance.
Strengthen the data backbone: Keep our data infrastructure fast, reliable, and cost-effective, and help build good internal data tools for the team.
Raise the bar and help set the direction: Perform code reviews, share feedback, contribute to key technical decisions, and help shape how our tech and infrastructure evolve.
We think you will thrive in this role if
You have shipped production software and know how to get things done. You take real ownership of your work and have a bias for shipping. You don't need to know anything about energy today or have 10 years of infrastructure experience - what matters most is that you're eager to learn and ready to put in the work.
You might also recognise yourself in some of these:
You have solid experience building and maintaining backend systems in production.
You have hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.
You care deeply about reliability and security.
You default to simple, pragmatic solutions. You let what the product and team need drive your priorities, and reach for proven tools and solutions over custom tooling.
You have worked with networking, VPNs, and/or data infrastructure.
You work well independently, make decisions with confidence, and know when to bring others in.
You enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others level up.
You are curious about how AI tools can help us ship better software as a team.
We work in Elixir and Python. We're hosted on GCP, use Kubernetes, data in Postgres w. TimescaleDB and BigQuery, and observability using Loki, Prometheus, and Grafana. We strive to keep our infrastructure as code with tools like Terraform and ArgoCD. Experience in this specific stack is by no means a requirement.
Please note that we are located in Copenhagen, Denmark and this is an in-office role with flexibility for hybrid work.
